Masterson Method®

The Masterson Method® is a hands-on technique that focuses on actively engaging with the horse. Rather than forcing movements or manipulations, it uses subtle touches and targeted techniques to involve the horse in the relaxation process. The practitioner observes the horse’s responses, such as blinking, chewing, yawning or weight shifts, which indicate areas of tension and how they can be released.

How Does the Masterson Method® Work?

By combining gentle, deep-touch techniques with specific joint mobilizations to release tension in muscles, fascia and joints. It addresses three primary areas:

• Neck and Poll: Relieving blockages and tension points that impact overall mobility.

• Shoulders and Front Limbs: Promoting freedom of movement and enhancing balance.

• Pelvis and Hindquarters: Releasing deep-seated tension that can affect performance and movement patterns.

A core element of the Masterson Method® is guiding the horse into a state of deep relaxation, which enhances the body’s natural self-healing processes.

Benefits of the Masterson Method® in Equine Body Performance

Incorporating the Masterson Method® into Equine Body Performance allows for more targeted and effective support for horses. This method is particularly beneficial for:

• Stiffness or restricted range of motion.

• Muscle tension and stress.

• Rehabilitation after injuries.

• Improving physical and emotional balance.

By using this approach, the horse becomes an active participant in the process, helping to release not only physical tension, but also strengthening trust and connection between the practitioner and the horse.

The Equine Body Performance Approach

The Masterson Method® is integrated with other techniques such as myofascial release, craniosacral therapy and deep tissue mobilizations to provide a comprehensive and holistic treatment. The goal is to support the horse’s natural balance, freedom of movement and overall performance in a sustainable way.
